Things aren't always as they seem…

Someone posing as Jim Carrey attended the Czech Lions ceremony, which is equal to the Academy Awards in the Czech Republic, and completely fooled everyone!

Jan Sverak, a film director who actually oversaw the entire event, explained that he was tricked by the hoax and apologized to viewers for the mix-up.

"We have become very likely the target of a very elaborate hoax. I'm sorry," he told a crowd of reporters shortly after the ceremony aired.

Even the show's host, Lucie Vyborna, thought that the man pretending to be the Dumb and Dumber star was real and insisted that Carrey was in attendance at the Czech show.

"Of course the real Jim Carrey was on the stage," she told local newspaper Blesk.

"I knew that he would come but I did not know what he would do there."

Meanwhile, Carrey took to Twitter to chime in about the hoax drama all the way from the privacy of his couch at home—you know, nowhere near the Czech Republic.

"Look! I'm more interesting than the Oscars while plunked on my couch eating chips. MY SPIRIT WILL NOT BE IGNORED," the comedian hilariously wrote.

Aside from the dig at this year's Academy Awards, Carrey's crack is well-deserved.
