The 2015 Oscars celebrated the work and accomplishments of some of film's finest Sunday and also provided an incredible platform for these talented individuals to speak their minds.

Patricia Arquette made her Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech into something more than thanking Boyhood's cast and crew or her own friends and family. She chose to speak up for all women (and brought a cheering Meryl Streep to her feet), saying, "The truth is: even though we sort of feel like we have equal rights in America, right under the surface, there are huge issues that are applied that really do affect women...And it's time for all the women in America and all the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we've all fought for to fight for us now."

She wasn't the only one to get a little political with her platform! Host Neil Patrick Harris took a jab at the lack of diversity amongst this years Oscar nominees in the acting categories, joking in his monologue, "Today we honor Hollywood's best and whitest...Sorry, brightest."

Some used their moment in the spotlight to crack jokes on former co-workers, while others reminded the larger audience how important it is to give mom a call.
