Neil Patrick Harris insists he wasn't worried about stripping down to his underwear in front of a billion or so people worldwide that watched last night's Oscars.
"I really didn't think about it," the first-time host told me at the Governors Ball. "I really didn't."
Really?
"I did Hedwig, so I'm used to being on stage without much on," NPH said.
For those of you who may not know, Harris won a Tony for his starring role as a scantily clad transgender singer in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Yeah, but his Broadway audience was nowhere near the size of the Oscar telecast's worldwide reach.
"I just think of it as an audience," Harris said. "It's not about numbers. It's always just an audience."
But he did put in some extra workout time before the big show. "I did more sit-ups for the last couple of weeks," he said.
He also told E! News' Catt Sadler that he had to have another layer of material sewn over his tighty whities because "the first pair in the lights revealed too much."
Oops.
And Harris said the toughest part of the night was not stripping down, but thinking about the opening number with Anna Kendrick and Jack Black.
"The hard part was the anticipation of getting it right," he said. "There were so many moving parts that the anticipation and the worry was killing me."
