Nation! Stephen Colbert, your favorite new silver fox, has booked his first major gig since The Colbert Report ended its 11-season run in December.

The 50-year-old talk show host will play a priest named Father Michael O'Donnell on The Mindy Project

Mindy Kaling, 35, who plays the main character, Ob/Gyn Mindy Lahiri, and also serves an executive producer and writer on the FOX comedy series, announced the news on Friday in a tweet containing a photo of the two embracing each other inside what appears to be a church.

Colbert is sporting a black cassock with a white clerical collar, as well as his silver mustache and beard, a dramatic new look he had debuted on Thursday at the 2015 Oscar Wilde Awards.

It is unclear how many episodes he will appear in or when his character will make its debut. FOX has not commented.

Colbert, who won nine Emmys for The Colbert Report, will made his debut as the new host of The Late Show in September, less than four months after David Letterman retires from the program after hosting it for more than 21 years.

Colbert has often acted in TV and in movies. He made his onscreen debut in an episode of the ABC crime drama series Missing Persons in 1993 and went on to appear on shows such as Spin City, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Strangers With Candy, a show he co-created. He also reprised his role in the latter series' movie adaptation, which was released several months after The Colbert Report's 2005 debut.

Colbert has also appeared in fellow SNL alum Mike Myers' 2008 comedy film The Love Guru, a 2012 episode of The Office and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The funnyman, a longtime fan of the fantasy franchise, last year hosted a Comic-Con panel in a Hobbit costume and also interviewed Smaug the dragon, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, on The Colbert Report.
