Drew Carey gave fans a real scare earlier today on Twitter…

The comedian posted, "Part of me wants to kill my self because of my ex. But I don't because I don't want to give her the satisfaction."

Understandably, it wasn't long before his more than 600,000 followers began posting positive messages to Carey, encouraging him to seek help if he was serious about wanting to hurt himself.

One fan wrote, "Easy buddy. No one is worth all that. Chin up," while another posted, "Come on man don't do that you have a hell of alot to live for."

And after a slew of tweets showing genuine concern for Carey's well-being, he took to Twitter once again to reassure fans that he wasn't being as literal as the original tweet may have sounded.

"Whoa! Sorry! I'm NOT suicidal! Shouldn't make angry jokes like that. So sorry. Thanks for all the love tho!"

Carey has been open about his struggles with depression over the years, and was even part of a suicide prevention video campaign in 2009.

During a 2007 interview with Access Hollywood, the actor revealed how he was able to get through some of the darker periods of his life.

"I learned how to believe in myself. Learned how to set goals, you know, self-help books, man. I just read every single one I can get a hold of and I still do. I read that stuff all the time still. I am always coming out bigger, better, stronger and happier."
