Apparently, John Mayer is a proud little monster.
The 37-year-old musician took to Twitter on Thursday to praise Lady Gaga for her latest album Cheek to Cheek—the pop star's collaboration with Tony Bennett that just landed the musical BFFs a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
Mayer began his lengthy Twitter admission by saying he has "huge respect" for the "Bad Romance" beauty before praising the 28-year-old artist for releasing an album she believed in—instead a generic pop record simply to please the masses.
I know this is going to sound like I?m trying to stir up media, but I have huge respect for Lady Gaga and I wanna tell you why.

She released a record that didn?t get the love she was probably hoping for, which happens to REAL artists. And she?s stood by it.

There is no desperate attempt to be as successful as before by any means necessary, no Artpop 2.0 with cynically produced hits.

I respect artists who release music they believe in and with a slow steady pulse while doing it, live or die.

So yah. fin. Carry on Gaga. I can dig it. Everyone else should, too.

Cheek to Cheek was released on September 19, 2014 and sold 131,000 copies in its first week, becoming Gaga's third consecutive No. 1 record in the United States.
The record hit airwaves just 10 months after the "Applause" singer released Artpop, which, in terms of first-week sales, was more successful with 258,000 copies sold.
However, Gaga nearly quit making music following its release, and it wasn't until she teamed up with Tony that she rediscovered her voice.
"Six months ago I didn't even want to sing anymore," the pop star previously told the September 2014 issue of Parade. "I tell Tony every day that he saved my life...I'm not going to say any names, but people get irrational when it comes to money—with how they treat you, with what they expect from you...I was so sad. I couldn't sleep. I felt dead. And then I spent a lot of time with Tony. He wanted nothing but my friendship and my voice."
It wasn't long until the newly-engaged Gaga caught wind of Mayer's kind words and took to her own social media page to thank the fellow songwriter.
Just got out of a great rehearsal! That was really cool @JohnMayer So thoughtful. The respect is mutual. ??
