Now this is a modern family!
Shayne Lamas, winner of the twelfth season of ABC's The Bachelor, will soon welcome another child with husband Nik Richie. The 29-year-old reality star announced in September that they are expecting a baby via surrogate, and now, she's revealed that the woman who is carrying her baby is her stepmom, Shawna Craig! "Shawna's not just my stepmother. She's like a soul sister," Shayne says in the March 2 issue of Closer Weekly, on newsstands now. "She's an angel that blessed my whole family, including my father."
Shawna, 28, is the fifth wife of Shayne's father, Falcon Crest star Lorenzo Lamas, 57.
The four family members also posed for the magazine, with Shawna cradling her baby bump.
Shayne and Nik are already parents to daughter Press Dahl, 3.
The happy—albeit odd—news comes a year after Shayne lost the baby boy she was carrying after a rare uterine rupture. At the time, she was 20 weeks pregnant. Doctors performed emergency surgery but the couple's son, whom they later named Rex Jagger, was growing outside her uterus and couldn't be saved. Shayne then underwent an emergency hysterectomy, and she lost her uterus and half her bladder.
On Feb. 10, Shayne paid tribute to her son via Instagram: "I might not carry you in my arms but I will always carry you in my heart. Love, Mommy 2-10-14 lost a piece of my soul that day."
Shawna, who tells Closer Weekly she never desired a baby of her own, works for a fertility agency that connects couples who can't get pregnant with egg donors and surrogates. She realized she could help Shayne and Nik.
"I'm ecstatic to be pregnant," says Shawna, who is due July 10. It's the best thing in the world."
And, Shayne and Nik will likely be painting the nursery blue—they're expecting a baby boy!
Shayne admits that it's "weird" to have her stepmother carrying her child. "Somebody else carrying your baby is weird. But I lost my son, and now Shawna is carrying my son. I have just been given the biggest blessing in the whole world and I will always be grateful."
