David Cassidy filed for bankruptcy protection Wednesday.

According to court documents obtained by E! News, the Partridge Family star owes hundreds of thousands to creditors, with debts of $21,952 to American Express, $17,150 to Citi, a myriad of legal fees (including one for $102,834) and more. Per the docs, the former teen idol also took out a $292,598 personal line of credit from Wells Fargo.

David, 64, told E! News in a statement: "I am going through bankruptcy proceedings at the moment. This is necessary for practical reasons to reorganize my life as I go through divorce and to restructure my finances."

His wife Sue Cassidy filed for divorce last February after 23 years of marriage. David was then in rehab, but Sue insisted that was not the reason for the split, which "has been looming for some time."

At the time, David told E! News he had "tried to resolve this amicably outside the public eye," adding, "It's a sad day for me and for our son Beau."

Prior to Sue's divorce filing, David had three DUI arrests in just a matter of years. After a Feb. 4, 2014 arrest, a judge ordered him to enter alcohol rehab for three months, serve five years' probation, pay fines and take part in a nine-month alcohol education program. Per TMZ, a judge signed off that David had completed the rehab and alcohol education requirements set by the court.
