Like migrating birds or salmon returning to their birthplace to spawn, Hollywood celebrities are creatures of habit who live their lives according to a well-planned calendar.

And if it's January, it must be time for swag suites, the Master Cleanse diet and invites to a slew of awards ceremonies and after-parties.

But while we mourned the cancellation of the Golden Globes (c'mon, a televised press conference is the ratings equivalent of being shut down) and the surrounding hoopla, the celebrity instinct to put on that party faces and socialize was even stronger than we realized.

Instead of staying home and sulking at the missed red carpet opportunities, celebs have been out in full force this week.

There was Debra Messing, Allison Janney and Angie Harmon at InStyle's 7th Annual Diamond Fashion Show at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Katie Holmes and Jessica Alba at Craft in Century City for the Glamour magazine V-Day luncheon, and in H'wood, Lauren Conrad and Jeremy Piven stopped by the Kari Feinstein Winter Style Lounge at Social. Heck, Picturehouse even went ahead with a pre-Globes dinner for Vie en Rose star Marion Cotillard

You can nix the official party, but—as long as there's Spanx and a camera somewhere—the show will always find a way to go on.
