Jimmy Fallon now hosts The Tonight Show and Seth Meyers hosts Late Night. James Corden is replacing Craig Ferguson as the host of The Late Late Show, and Stephen Colbert left The Colbert Report to take over for David Letterman on The Late Show. John Oliver has his own HBO show with This Week Tonight, and Larry Wilmore just started The Nightly Show on Comedy Central.
Throughout all of it, Jon Stewart has remained constant, save for a brief stint during the summer of 2013 when he took a break from hosting The Daily Show to write and direct the movie Rosewater. Otherwise, he's always been there, ready to deliver the news that the news doesn't want delivered, in a way the news would never deliver it.
Now, he's leaving, and our world has become a little darker. Of course, Twitter has taken upon itself the task of coming up with a replacement host, and as a way to ease the pain, we've picked our favorites and collected them into a list!
Joel McHale
He's been throwing jokes at us about current events on TV for over a decade now on The Soup, so we don't feel like switching to "real" news would be too much of a jump for him. He's got the hosting chops, and he would probably appreciate the opportunity to sit down, for once.
Amy Poehler
She's got experience from her 4 years at Weekend Update, and we don't know anyone who doesn't like watching Amy Poehler talk at them about almost anything at all. She's also ballsy, as shown by her Golden Globes hosting gigs, and honestly, having her on TV every night would be a vaguely acceptable trade-off for no longer getting to see her only once a week on Parks and Rec.
Tina Fey
Everything you can say about Amy, you can also say about Tina in terms of why she'd be a great Daily Show host. They both know their way around writing great jokes of all kinds for any kind of media, and they're both beloved by all. Actually…
Tina Fey AND Amy Poehler
We actually like this even better, because Amy and Tina as dual hosts has already been proven to be a rousing success. In fact, if they don't get to host The Daily Show, just give them their own show. Any show. We will literally take any show featuring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey doing almost anything.
Jessica Williams
She's already Senior Youth Correspondent (and Senior Beyoncé Correspondent) on The Daily Show, so this wouldn't be too much of a stretch. She also might be a genius, and someone has already started a petition to make her lead anchor. You would hear no complaints from us if that were to happen. Just watch this clip of her takedown of street harassment and try not to bow down to this woman.
Aziz Ansari
Parks and Rec's Tom Haverford is adorable and hilarious, but Ansari is also known for his seriously great stand-up. Parks and Rec is also almost over, and if his take on current events is anywhere near as interesting and incredibly funny as his take on the world of dating, we could be in for a treat.
Samantha Bee
She's the longest-serving Daily Show correspondent ever, and she's completely hilarious. We actually are confused as to why she doesn't already have her own show. We'd watch her and her husband, fellow correspondent Jason Jones, interview unsuspecting citizens/members of Congress all day long, but we'd also watch her (or both of them, together!) completely own at the helm of The Daily Show.
Amy Schumer
Inside Amy Schumer may look like a goofy sketch show, but many of those sketches are seriously on point and offer some hilarious but true commentary on almost anything you can think of. Schumer is never afraid to go there, regardless of where "there" is or what she has to do to get to there.
Aasif Mandvi
Mandvi is another long-time Daily Show correspondent who could easily take the reins. Check out one of his best known segments from 2013 where an interview with a GOP leader in North Carolina ends up costing the guy his job!
Aaron Sorkin
We don't think we actually want this, but we want to see him try it just to find out what it's like to get Aaron Sorkin's take on news as it's actually (sort of) happening, instead of two years later.
