Going to fabulous award shows and star-studded parties may appear to be glamorous.

And while Lupita Nyong'o certainly knows being a celebrity has its perks, she also realizes fame has some negatives.

"The not-so-fun part of all this is that when I don't feel like being famous, I still am," she admitted in the March issue of Lucky available Feb. 17. "When you're in the middle of Manhattan and you have to pop into Starbucks to use the restroom and everyone recognizes you when you're waiting in line, it's awkward."

Oh, we totally feel ya, girl. And it also must be tough going from an ordinary person into an Oscar-nominated actress in a matter of months.

After all, she wasn't allowed to wear makeup as a teenager.

"My mother has never ever worn a drop of makeup in her life, not even at a wedding," she shared. "Honestly, my mother's outlook was hard for me to take when I was a teenager and wanted to experiment."

She added, "But in the end I appreciated it, because today I can look in a mirror with no makeup on and love myself."

It also may have contributed to her desire to stay true to herself and not make waves online. While the actress is active on social media, don't expect the 31-year-old to exactly "break the internet."

"I'm governed by things that made me smile, laugh and think," she explained to the publication. "And if they do that to me, then I ask myself, would anybody else care to see this? If I can think of one person, I post it."

If only other celebrities would be so wise.
