Ricardo Medina Jr. will not face charges in the fatal stabbing of his roommate, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Prosecutors announced the news Tuesday during a hearing. Medina is expected to be released.

The announcement comes just three days after the Power Rangers Samurai star was arrested at his Palmdale, Calif., home after allegedly stabbing his roommate to death with a sword.

According to Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, police were called to the actor's home after a fight broke out between Medina and his roommate Joshua Sutter.

Things quickly escalated when Medina and his girlfriend retreated to his bedroom. Sutter, police say, then decided to follow them and force the door open. Soon after, Medina proceeded to stab Sutter once in the abdomen with a sword kept next to his bedroom door.

The 36-year-old actor called authorities who quickly arrived and transported Sutter to the hospital. He was pronounced dead while Medina was booked for murder.

Friends of Medina believe that the actor could have been defending himself during the argument.

"It absolutely was self-defense," longtime friend Frank Sheftel told KABC. "It's definitely somebody that was coming after him and he did what he had to do."

Sutter's sister, however, isn't so sure.

"He's a good, soft, kind guy," Rachel Kennedy told the local news outlet. "I thought, 'Yeah, it seemed as though everything was OK.' I mean, they didn't love each other, but I didn't think that they were fighting."

She added, "Maybe Josh entered his space and he didn't like that very much."
