It's home sweet home in Harlem for Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka!

The happy couple opened up their doors to Architectural Digest for an inside look at the expansive Harlem townhouse, showcasing renovations that were a year in the making.

"Harlem's amazing. For value's sake you can get a lot of space and retain the history and appreciation of it," Harris said. "We loved this place. We loved the fact that it had solid bones."

Formerly a speakeasy for Irish millworkers, the five-story townhouse features four bedrooms, two terraces and a back garden.

Even better? Harris and Burtka's four-year-old twins Gideon and Harper have just, oh, 8000-square-feet of home to run and play in. The renovation process happened during a busy year for the couple, who got married in Italy in September and moved from their West Coast home to strike up a primary residence in New York City.

The home's main renovations included making the space more open-plan, adding the couple's eccentric artwork (the pair collect "oddities," including magic props, side show paraphernalia and taxidermy pieces), adding a large kitchen island and making each room functional, individual and adventurous.

So, next up for Neil after a renovation-well-done? Hosting the 2015 Oscars on Feb. 22. Burtka, meanwhile, will begin previews of the Broadway musical It Shoulda Been You, which is directed by Frasier and Broadway theater alum David Hyde Pierce.
