President Barack Obama's beloved Chicago Bears may not have made it to the playoffs this season.

But that certainly doesn't mean the football fan isn't going to be tuning in for Super Bowl XLIX. Hours before game time, the Commander-in-Chief met up with Savannah Guthrie in the White House kitchen to discuss all things sports.

As it turns out, Obama isn't ready to predict a winner just yet.

"Since my Bears are not in it, I think it's always wise for me not to choose a team because then I just alienate one big city," he told the Today show co-host. "But I will say that it's going to be close and the question I have is whether the Seattle's secondary is healthy enough."

He added, "That's the heart and soul of their team and they got three guys back there who are hurt. I don't know how that's going to affect the game."

While the President is busier than ever with the economy and foreign affairs, it's been almost impossible to avoid all the conversations about "deflategate." When asked about the controversy clouding the NFL, Obama remained hopeful that it wouldn't happen again.

"If you break the rules, you break the rules," he proclaimed. "The one thing I didn't realize is that each team prepares their own footballs and brings them to the game? I don't think there is any other sport like that so I'm assuming one of the things the NFL will be doing—just to avoid any of these controversies—is to figure out how the officials are in charge of footballs from start to finish."

He added, "The Patriots were going to beat the Colts regardless of what the footballs looked like."

All this football talk wouldn't be complete without some hearty beer. Obama offered Guthrie a glass of White House Honey Ale made from honey included in First Lady Michelle Obama's garden.

"You can make beer using honey," he shared. "It's been well-reviewed." Cheers to a great game everyone!

Super Bowl XLIX kicks off tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT on NBC. Watch President Obama's full interview with Guthrie Monday morning on Today
