Amanda Seyfried will replace Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany in a new off-Broadway play, The Way We Get By, which is about "love and lust and the whole damn thing."

In the show, by playwright Neil LaBute, the 29-year-old Mean Girls, Ted 2 and Les Miserables film actress will play Beth, who gets involved with Doug, played by The Newsroom alum Thomas Sadoski.

Seyfried's casting in the play, which opens in a few months, was announced on Thursday. No mention was made of Maslany, 29, who was cast along with Sadoski, 38, in October. She has not commented

Maslany, who plays multiple, distinctly different clones on the BBC America series Orphan Black, withdrew from the production due to filming commitments, Variety reported, while fellow top trade publication The Hollywood Reporter cited a similar reason—filming schedule conflicts.

The actress has already filmed episodes of the upcoming third season of Orphan Black, which premieres in April. She also appears in a film, Woman in Gold, which is also set for release that month. Production wrapped last week. No new projects have been announced.

Variety noted that Maslany is one of several actresses said to be testing for a new Star Wars film. The Hollywood Reporter had said earlier this month that she was trying out for the female lead in a spinoff, which will stand alone from a planned new trilogy, that will be directed by Gareth Edwards. Neither Maslany nor Disney, which owns franchise creator George Lucas' production company Lucasfilm, have commented.

Seyfriend recently began to film a new movie, Let It Snow, and has a couple more big screen projects lined up for this year. Sadowski, who played Don on The Newsroom, stars in the new NBC miniseries The Slap, which is set to debut in February, and is also preparing to film the movie Lemonade.

The Way We Get By's official website already features Seyfried's bio. The play marks the off-Broadway debut for the actress, while Sadoski, 38, is a veteran theatre performer and won a Tony for his performance in the 2009 Broadway play reasons to be pretty, also by LaBute. Maslany was to make her own New York stage debut with The Way We Get By.

"Meet Beth and Doug: two people who have no problems getting dates with their partners of choice," the play's website states. "What they do have, however, is a very awkward encounter after spending one hot night together following a drunken wedding reception they attend."

"They wake up to a blurry morning where the rules of attraction, sex and society are waiting for them before their first cup of coffee, which leads them to ponder how much they really know about each other and how much they really care about what other people think. The Way We Get By is a play about love and lust and the whole damn thing."

Previews are set to begin on April 28 and the show will run through June.
