Selena Gomez is smokin'—both figuratively and literally.

The brunette beauty was snapped taking a smoke break on the set of her upcoming film The Fundamentals of Caregiving in Atlanta earlier today while shooting a scene for the movie, which also stars Paul Rudd.

Gomez did a few screen tests last week, but today was her first day of shooting and it took place at a gas station in the ATL. An eyewitness tells E! News Selena stayed indoors to keep warm until it was time to do her scenes, and added that the crew kept extra muscle on set to make sure she always had security nearby.

Regardless, a few fans were still able to meet the singer and had nothing but kind words to say. "It was awesome meeting Selena, she's really nice," Vanessa Barton tells E! News. "One of the nicest people I've ever met."

Selena also posted a photo with her co-stars Rudd and Craig Roberts and wrote, "Hi. This is the Fundamentals of Caregiving. Watch us in a theater soon. Well, let us shoot, edit, hopefully not re-shoot, then release it."

The Jonathan Evison novel of the same name was published in 2012 and tells the story of Ben Benjamin (Rudd), a man escaping divorce who just barely qualifies as a professional caregiver for a typical video-game-obsessed and sex-crazed teenage boy Trevor (Roberts), who has muscular dystrophy.

Gomez snagged the female lead role of Dot, an outspoken young woman full of sass, who hitches a ride with the pair during a road trip, and whose no-holds-barred attitude and lack of embarrassment about Trevor's condition causes him to develop a crush on her.

Prior to filming, Selena was spotted hanging out in the Dirty South with her rumored boyfriend Zedd. The pair enjoyed each other's company all weekend while also promoting their upcoming music collaboration on social media, however, a source tells E! News that Zedd is no longer in Atlanta.
