Patrick Dempsey's wife of more than 15 years, Jillian Fink, has filed for divorce.
"It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage," the duo said in a statement obtained by E! News. "Our primary concern remains the wellbeing of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family's privacy at this very sensitive time."
Jillian cited the usual irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. They have three children together, 14-year-old daughter Tallulah and 7-year-old twin sons Darby and Sullivan.
The Dempseys tied the knot in July 1999. Patrick was previously married to Rocky Parker, whom he co-starred with in the 1987 film In the Mood, from 1987 until 1994.
In an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2011, the Grey's Anatomy star said that the key to a successful marriage was "accepting that you're not going to change the other person. And the words "Yes, dear. Whatever you want."
"Being centered" was the best part of marriage for the actor at the time, while he considered the worst part to be "when you're not connecting. Your partner is going out the door when you're coming in, and you don't have a chance to debrief on the day. That's the worst."
Asked what he considered an important thing to have in a marriage, Dempsey answered, "Individual time. She'll do things on her own so she can come back and be much more patient with the kids. I go car racing."
