American Horror Story: Freak Show ended with how it all began...with Jessica Lange singing David Bowie. Lange's final American Horror Story performance—of the season? Ever?—was of Bowie's "Heroes."

The epic performance, which was set several years after the events of the season, was mixed with endings for several of the other surviving Freak Show characters including Jimmy (Evan Peters), Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson) and Desiree (Angela Bassett). They've all moved on and had their dreams come true. And Elsa? Well, Elsa became a TV star had everything she wanted...but still wasn't truly fulfilled.

After a reporter got their hands on Elsa's old snuff film, the one where her legs were cut off, Elsa knew her career was over, so she decided to end things on her terms: performing on Halloween so Edward Mordrake (Wes Bentley) would kill her. And he did. But she didn't end up in his band of suffering freaks. Instead, she went to heaven (maybe?) to be with her babies, including Ethel (Kathy Bates), and perform to packed crowds every night.

Oh, American Horror Story.

This could be the last time we see Lange in this show. The Emmy, Oscar and Golden Globe winner has said season four of AHS would likely be her last, but series co-creator Ryan Murphy isn't quite ready to let her go. Sources told E! News the fifth season of American Horror Story is still in early planning stages and so far it's still unknown whether Lange will be a part of it for another go around.

Murphy took to Twitter after the finale aired on Wednesday, Jan. 21 with a simple message.

"Thank you Jessica...for everything," he wrote. "Always."

Lange told E! in November that she was going to have a talk with Murphy after Freak Show concluded. "You know, I told him that we would sit down and have a long conversation when this was over," Lange told us. "In a way this character is so great, I don't know how you top Elsa Mars. I really—in deference to Ryan, who I love dearly and who I respect beyond—I have no idea at this point."
