It's been a good month for Ian Somerhalder.

Not only did he get engaged to Nikki Reed, but they also adopted two "Huge kids" together (!). Then on Wednesday, the Vampire Diaries hunk and his fiancée celebrated some very big and exciting news in the sweetest way—with...a homemade cake?

Yes, the 36-year-old star Instagrammed a picture of a strawberry-topped pound cake with "Good luck/ I [Heart] You" written on it in chocolate chips. "The best thing to come home to!" he gushed. "Wow, thank you amazing @iamnikkireed- it's true..."

What's true? Well, it's a brand-new chapter of Ian's undead life. As he excitedly revealed, he's "DIRECTING episode 616" of The Vampire Diaries, writing, "I definitely need all the luck I can get! Send me great vibes tomorrow everyone...:"

"Also, THANK YOU to all that made this happen: Warner Brothers, The CW,our producers all of you-thank you," he added. "Thank you also to the most amazing group of artisans that is the CREW of The Vampire Diaries-you are the UNSUNG HEROES of what people see on their screens! You are my brothers, my sisters-my family. I Love you all. Wow. I'm a lucky lucky boy."

The thrill didn't wear off either! Ian adorably Instagrammed a pic from the director's parking spot, writing, "Day 1! Coolest parking spot... So humbled by the artisanal skills of this group of people-on every level."

If you look closely at this pic, you can see Ian's got a picture taped up of what could possibly be one of his and Nikki's new "babies"—a horse! Ian did, indeed, reveal over the weekend he and his future wife, 26, were "Hanging with our babies." However, he also shared a picture of Eagle and Millie Reed-Somerhalder's personalized bridles!

OK, so first they'll monogram stuff for the barn animals, and maybe someday they'll follow suit with the babies! In any case, congratulations!
