Watch: Jen Aniston Talks Surreal "Cake" Journey

People can't stop talking about Jennifer Aniston's departure from romantic comedies and Friends with her dramatic role in Cake, and the actress told E! News that she still can't get over the praise.

Appearing at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards Thursday night, Jen gushed to us about how great the entire experience has been, from making the movie to receiving all kinds of recognition, including a Golden Globe nomination and a Best Actress nomination at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards!

"It's just surreal and wonderful and it's just so many things," she said. "It's really fun."

Although she has won a Golden Globe before for her work on Friends, she still finds herself overwhelmed by awards season this year, as she had been nominated by many different groups for her work in the "complex" drama.

"I feel extremely humbled to be honest," she said.

Claire Bennett, a woman fascinated by the suicide of a someone in her chronic pain support group, wasn't a character that you'd normally find in Jen's repertoire, which was exactly what she found refreshing about the role.

"She was extremely layered and complex character and those roles haven't always come my way," she admitted. "This just happened to be a perfect storm of moment and it happened and it's been wonderful."

She has also said that going makeup-free in the role was one of the "most liberating" things that she has done!

She might not have received an Academy Award nomination, but that's not stopping her from moving forward in her career. Instead, she's going full-steam ahead and will channel her energy into directing a feature film!

"We're going to make it happen, but I have a lot of time," she previously told E! News. "We're just beginning."

She has some directing experience under her belt, having worked on the short film Room 10 with Robin Wright and Kris Kristofferson and a segment in Five, an anthology about breast cancer that aired on Lifetime.
