A new chapter, indeed!

Just two days before E! News exclusively confirmed that Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder are engaged after just six months of dating, the former Twilight star opened up to Nylon magazine about her new music—and her words suddenly take on a whole new meaning now that we know Nikki is planning to tie the knot with the Vampire Diaries hunk.

"I don't think I've ever done anything this vulnerable and personal," she says of her first solo single "Fly With Me," which was just released on iTunes and is described by the publication as "make-out music."

This is not Reed's first venture into the recording industry, but it is her first as a solo artist, as she previously created music with ex husband Paul McDonald, from whom she finalized her divorce on Dec. 26.

"There was something so beautiful and honest about what Paul and I created, but there's no denying that it had a very different feel from this," she says of her new sound. "It's just as real and as raw, but I connected with this music in a totally different way. It's a new chapter for me."

The 26-year-old beauty seems to have found her footing after catapulting to stardom in 2003 following the release of the film Thirteen, a movie which she had co-written partly based on her life.

"It was a feeding frenzy, and I wasn't ready. I couldn't understand what was happening. I didn't have any media training—I didn't have anybody but myself," she admits. "I was a very sensitive kid who then had to condition myself to desensitize. Now I feel like my journey is to try to do the opposite, and find that connection with my own sensitivity again."

Reed, who previously adopted a horse named Eagle with Ian and is planning to donate a portion of the proceeds from the single to Wildlife Waystation, is now embracing her fame as a means to make the world a better place.

"It's been a journey to figure out what kind of contribution I want to make," she says, "and what kind of person I want to be on this planet."
