Happy 51st birthday, Michelle Obama!

FLOTUS is another year older today, which gives us all the more reason to take a walk down memory lane—for her most chic style moments, that is. We're partial to Mrs. Obama in bright red, like when she stunned in an off-the-shoulder Alexander McQueen gown at the White House State Dinner in 2011, as well as that sweeping Jason Wu confection with a halter neckline that she wore to President Barack Obama's second inaugural ball in 2013.

Mrs. Obama also knows how to rock a ball skirt, as seen with her custom Carolina Herrera gown at the White House State Dinner in 2014 (ICYMI: Read our rundown of her best State Dinner looks ever here). Colorful frocks, meanwhile, are obviously Michelle-approved: We couldn't take our eyes off of the First Lady's printed Tracy Reese dress, which she sported at the Democratic National Convention in 2013.

And leave it to Lady O to make the LBD new again, like when she stepped out in that floral fit-and-flare Carolina Herrera dress for the Charlottenburg Palace Berlin Dinner in June 2013.

The first lady is at her best, however, in bright pops of color: At the 2013 Kennedy Center Honors, she wore this stunning emerald green Marchesa gown alongside President Obama (who looked sharp himself in a lustrous black tux).

And, of course, it wouldn't be a Michelle Obama style tribute without saluting the Jason Wu gown that started it all.
