It sounds like Sean Penn has given up guns for good.

It was at his annual pre-Golden Globes gala for J/P HRO that he revealed that girlfriend Charlize Theron convinced him to have his collection of nearly 65 firearms turned into a sculpture by artist Jeff Koons and then auctioned off for the Haiti relief organization.

Penn told me at this year's benefit on Saturday night that he's not missing the weapons.

"I think guns are not something to be missed," he said. "Especially, on a serious note, when we talk about it this week [and] this tragic thing that happened in Paris. I'd like to see more guns go to sculpture."

He added, "I'd like to see it happen. I don't know that we've come to a time where we can be a gunless society, but we're certainly not working the way we're flying with them."

Anderson Cooper paid a whopping $1.4 million for the sculpture.

Penn didn't mention Theron by name during the auction but said that "a strong woman who happens to be from South Africa" changed his minds about owning the guns.

"Being provoked by this aforementioned strong woman and considering how liberating of bulls--t and ugliness it would be not only get rid of the guns I have in the continental United States but also to destroy them, Jeff Koons and I had a chat the other day," Penn said.

He said, "The highest bidder gets every single one of my guns put in the hands of this iconic artist and sculptor…Koons will decommission [and] render inactive all of my cowardly killing machines."

Like last year, the gala on Saturday raised a total of $6 million for J/P HRO. The live auction included Ben Stiller winning a Rachel Zoe fashion experience for $150,000.
