Alan Cumming may not have won a Golden Globe Sunday night, but he certainly won for best surprise date!

After losing to Matt Bomer in the category for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Miniseries, the 49-year-old carried on by attending HBO's official after-party with a special friend.

Wearing a khaki-colored suit with black sneakers, it appears The Good Wife star tried to match his plus one, Monica Lewinsky, who worked a little black dress with gold heels.

Before you ask yourself why in the world Cumming brought the former White House intern to the Globes, it turns out these two have shared a solid friendship for many years.

"We met at a party about 16 years ago, at this Marie Claire party. They'd done a thing about her and I'd done an article for [it]," he recalled on Watch What Happens Live. "We were at the same table, we went out for dinner and we just stayed friends."

He added, "And she is really one of the kindest most loyal, loving, tender, funny girls I've ever known. I think she's really one of my best friends. She's been at my wedding. She knows my family. She's lovely."

Amanda Peet, Jennifer Aniston, and cast members from Girls were also in attendance at the star-studded party.

Lewinsky, who continues to move past her scandalous relationship with former President Bill Clinton, remains focused on being a "social activist" and a "public speaker."

And while public perception may always link her to the infamous White House scandal, Lewinsky says she has no plans to change her last name.

"No one else in the investigation had to change their name. Why should I?" she declared in Porter magazine. "I use aliases at times to protect my privacy, but I'm not ashamed of who I am."
