Wednesday's tragic attack on satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo's offices in Paris have left the world shocked and stricken with grief, but when suspects wanted in connection with the attack took hostages in standoffs Friday, the already-tense situation peaked.

French police killed two brothers suspected in the massacre and were able to free a hostage who came out unharmed. The police also killed another hostage-taker, who, according to the New York Times, was associated with the brothers but was involved in his own assault on a kosher supermarket.

Sadly, three hostages were killed and five injured at the market. Five other hostages were freed.

Paris' tragedies this week have swept the world, with people publicly and privately mourning the events. President Barack Obama and many other celebrities have come out in waves to support France during this trying time. Before addressing a group in Knoxville, Tenn. regarding college affordability, Obama took a few moments to address the French crisis.

"And I think it's important for us to understand, France is our oldest ally. I want the people of France to know that the United States stands with you today, stands with you tomorrow," the president said. "Our thoughts are prayers are with the families who've been directly impacted. We grieve with you, we fight alongside you to uphold our values, the values that we share—universal values that bind us together as friends and as allies."

He continued: "And in the streets of Paris, the world has seen once again what terrorists stand for: they have nothing to offer but hatred and suffering. And we stand for freedom and hope and the dignity of all human beings. And that's what the city of Paris represents to the world. And that spirit will endure forever, long after the scourge of terrorism is banished from this world."

Both Marlon Wayans and Khloé Kardashian Instagrammed a picture of a teary eye with the iris divided into the colors of France's flag.

"Still saddened by what's happened in Paris. Revenge is said to be sweet but peace is sweeter. Paris is one of my favorite places in the world. I frequently visit. I pray for peace. Not only in Paris but throughout the world. #onelove," Wayans captioned his pic.

Khloé captioned her photo with an excerpt from Pope Francis' speech, "'We pray, in this Mass, for the victims of this cruelty – so many of them – and we pray also for the perpetrators of such cruelty, that the Lord might change their heart.' #prayforparis #prayforall #prayforpeace," she posted with her photo.

Eva Longoria tweeted her reaction in French, showing solidarity with the hurt country.

"Mes prières sont avec vous, France....," she wrote, which translates to "My prayers are with you, France."
