She's got the muscle. She's got the moves. And we've already seen her kick some ass on the big screen.
Isn't it time Jennifer Lopez plays a superhero?
"That would be awesome," J.Lo told me while promoting her new thriller, The Boy Next Door. "I don't know why somebody hasn't thought about that yet."
Maybe she already has one in mind. She jokingly called out to the president of Warner Bros, the studio behind the Batman and Superman franchises. "Greg Silverman—I need to play a superhero!" she playfully shouted.
Until then, we do get to see Lopez in The Boy Next Door (in theaters on Jan. 23). In what's sure to become a hit guilty pleasure, she plays a high school teacher who is terrorized by a much younger man (Ryan Guzman) after they have a one-night stand.
"It's a movie we produced [and] we shot in 25 days on a micro-budge, like $4 million," Lopez said. "It was just one of those passion projects."
Her producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas found the script. Director Rob Cohen signed on pretty quickly. "The next thing I knew, Ryan and I were in bed together," Lopez said with a laugh.
As we previously reported, Lopez and Guzman's sex scene leaves little to the imagination.
"It was intense," the American Idol judge said. "Those scenes are embarrassing. They are uncomfortable, but your job as an actress or an actor is to make it believable and this movie in particular…hinges on if that was believable, that it was enough to make this guy go insane."
The Boy Next Door also stars John Corbett as Lopez's philandering husband.
The Sex and the City actor gushed over Lopez, who he said he's had a "crush" on since seeing her in Out of Sight back in 1998.
"It's a lot of days and a lot of hours on set and the last thing you want to do is be around someone who needs a lot," he told me. "They need a lot of attention. They actually don't want to go home at the end of the day because they like all the attention and because home is such a lonely place because they don't have 100 people handling them. Jennifer is the complete opposite of that and very cool and great to be around. She's such a normal megastar."
