Benedict Cumberbatch is expecting his first child with fiancée Sophie Hunter, his rep confirms to E! News! "I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child. They are both over the moon," the actor's publicist said in a statement.
The exciting pregnancy news come just two months after the 38-year-old Imitation Game star and Hunter got engaged. Cumberbatch and Hunter, a 36-year-old actress and director, announced they were headed down the aisle via a paid-for announcement in The Times newspaper's classified section (so traditional!). Before popping the question, the Sherlock star reportedly flew to Edinburgh to ask Hunter's mom's permission to ask for her hand in marriage.
Following their engagement, Hunter sparked pregnancy rumors at the 2015 Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this month when fans took notice of her flowing dress that appeared baggy around her midsection. Now fans and Cumberbitches can officially celebrate the big baby news!
Cumberbatch and Hunter met while shooting the thriller Burlesque Fairytales in 2009; however, they weren't confirmed as a couple until June 2014 after they were photographed together at the French Open.
Asked in early 2014 if he wanted to settle down, Cumberbatch said, "I can imagine I'll look back at this point in my life and think: 'Wow, that was really extraordinary.' But at the same time I hope I'm looking back and going, 'Oh, that was the moment I got on with life and realized things beyond myself.' Without using words like 'marriage,' 'children' and 'family'—although I have just used those words—put it this way, I hope I've got other people to look back with me at that point. I hope I'm surrounded by family."
