It's official: Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs' marriage is over.

Their divorce was finalized on Dec. 3 at a New York City court, legal records show. Menzel, a popular Broadway star who is also known for portraying Queen Elsa in Disney's Frozen, married Diggs, who played Dr. Sam Bennett on Private Practice and now stars on TNT's Murder in the First, in 2003. They share a 5-year old son, Walker Nathaniel.

Menzel, 43, and Diggs, who turned 44 on Friday, had announced their separation a little more than a year ago, in December 2013. This past November, the actor filed a divorce petition in New York City.

The two met in the '90s on the set of the Broadway musical Rent and reprised their roles of Maureen and Benny in a 2005 movie adaptation.

"There weren't a lot of couples like us in the theater community—and I know there aren't a lot of performers as talented as she is…and then you have the whole mixed [race] thing," Diggs told Redbook last year. "It was easy for people to root for us. Right now, we're still trying to figure out a lot of stuff because we're on different coasts and our son is getting older."

Menzel is also known for originating the role of the witch Elphaba in Broadway musical Wicked, for which she won a Tony in 2004. Last year, she was nominated for one for her performance as Elizabeth in the musical If/When.

The seasoned performer was recently criticized over her performance of the hit Frozen song "Let It Go" at the New Year's Rockin' Eve event in New York City. Many viewers felt she botched the ballad's high note. The actress, who had in the past sometimes caught similar flak for her performances of a Wicked showstopper, responded on Twitter, referencing comments she had made before about her about her vocal capabilities.

"I am more than the notes I hit," she said.
