Following a string of reports speculating that Johnny Depp and fiancée Amber Heard are headed for a split, the couple, who got engaged in January 2014 after meeting on the set of the 2011 film The Rum Diary, attended an 80th birthday party for Depp's mom, which also served as an NYE bash, at West Hollywood's Ago restaurant on Wednesday.
The attractive couple was photographed in the car together arriving at the eatery, and while Depp's mug is barely visible in the pic (with the exception of his blue shades), Heard looked gorgeous, wearing a rose-colored eye shadow and bright red lips.
According to a source, the Italian restaurant, which is co-owned by Robert De Niro, was rented out for the occasion, and the low-key soiree served as a family friendly evening.
"Everyone had a great time," the source said, adding that the party was "relaxed and comfortable" and "a great way to start 2015."
The couple snuck in and out of the private bash, where guests included family and close friends, in an attempt to keep a low profile. And while the two found themselves at the center of breakup reports just one month prior, the insider says the couple is heading into the New Year with their romance stronger than ever.
"Amber and Johnny are really happy," the source said of the Heard, 28, and Depp, 51, who have been known to have a roller-coaster relationship. "And their relationship is in a really good place."
The insider added that the Pirates of the Caribbean star stayed at the bash until just past 12:30 a.m., heading out much earlier than in previous years when he remained at the party until well past 1 in the morning.
Last month, a source told E! News that the couple had hit a road block in their relationship, putting their wedding plans on hold when trouble in paradise first arose. The rumors, in part, were fueled by Depp's questionable appearance at the Hollywood Film Awards in November, during which he slurred his speech on stage and dropped a number of expletives on live TV.
Johnny and Amber "have extreme personalities and are both very intense people," the source explained, "Arguments are bound to arise."
While the two are notoriously private, Depp did gush about his bride-to-be in an interview with Today back in April 2014.
"She's sharp as a tack," he said after telling Savannah Guthrie that Heard is a "wonderful girl." "A southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me."
