Sarah Palin has found herself at the center of controversy...again

The former Alaska governor is being slammed on social media after the 50-year-old politician posted an image on her Facebook page of her 6-year-old son, Trig, standing on top of their family dog's back after he climbed atop the black Labrador in order to reach the kitchen counter.

"Happy New Year!" Palin captioned the pics. "May 2015 see every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward. Trig just reminded me. He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for 'up!', found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone."

While the image is seemingly intended to applaud her son, who has Down syndrome, Palin's Facebook followers immediately took issue with the images, accusing the mother of five of "animal cruelty" and "abuse."

"This is so wrong and is animal cruelty. Just because your son has a disability is no excuse to not teach respect and compassion for animals," one user wrote.

Many have shared some harsh words for Palin (which, should hardly come as a surprise considering the author has always been a polarizing figure), but even those who have been pro-Palin in the past expressed their disappointment.  "Sarah do yourself a favor, take this down," another Facebook user posted. "Make a new 2015 new year post. There are lots of dog lovers out there. Not a good way to start the year and I am a conservative."

Palin has yet to respond to the backlash via social media. The post, which was shared just 24 hours ago, has already garnered over 13,000 comments.

This isn't the first time the conservative television personality has raised eyebrows for her parenting tactics.

In September, Palin's daughter Bristol, as well as other members of the Palin clan, were involved in a drunken fight at a snowmobile party (Bristol reportedly punched a man several times)—and the proud mama took to Twitter to express her approval.

"I love my Bristol! My straight-shooter is one of the strongest young women you'll ever meet," Palin wrote along with several photos of her and her family. "I have to say this as a proud mama: right up there with their work ethic and heart for those less fortunate, my kids' defense of family makes my heart soar!"
