11 Ways Christmas Changes When You're An Adult, and the 1 Thing That Will Never Change

You no longer want to wake up at 4 a.m. to open presents, you want to sleep!

It may happen when you hit 18, or when you move out of the house or when the first grandchild is born. But it does happen. And if it hasn't happened to you yet, it will.

There is just no way to run from it. Christmas and specifically Christmas morning will change when you are older. How? Check out the list below, starring the beautiful faces of our own E! Online readers. If you want to be featured in a future article, scroll on down to see how to get the chance to see your pretty face on this site!

1. You're now excited about practical gifts that used to piss you off as a child (starring @jess_kook)

Fuzzy socks? Bedding? New clothes? A crock pot? SCORE!

2. You want to sleep in on Christmas morning (starring @artedeluis)

Instead of you begging your parents to get up at 4:30 a.m. so you can see what Santa got you, your parents are now trying (and failing) to wake you up before 8 a.m.

3. You need coffee as much as your parents do before opening presents on Christmas morning (starring @justinbarringer)

When we were little, we had to wait what seemed like hours for our parents to brew a pot of coffee so we could get to the presents under the tree. Now we are elbowing them out of the way so we can get that sweet, sweet caffeine into our system asap.

4. Your parents don't try and hide the fact that the presents are not from Santa

You've figured it out. The jig is up.

5. You don't have to go to bed early to "wait for Santa" (starring @mr_crowleyyy)

In fact, you're probably still up even after your parents have put out the presents for Christmas morning. The magic and mystery has been shattered. Whatever, you'll be up late on Tumblr anyway.

6. You eat the cookies meant for Santa (starring @hannadshook)

Hey, if Santa isn't real then why should he (your parents) get all the sugar?!

7. Christmas morning suddenly becomes all about the grandkids (starring @rigoxmaya)

All the attention is on them. They get the cool toys and they definitely get more gifts than you do. Sorry, Christmas morning belongs to the young now. But hey, at least you get to open up that gift card to Forever 21.

8. You're expected to give as much as you receive, meaning you have to spend so much money (starring @sugar_nazi)

Now that you are "functioning adult" with a "real job," you can't get away with just getting presents on Christmas. You have to give now, too, which means shopping for your parents, your siblings and possibly your in-laws. And no, adorable handmade cards don't count anymore as presents. Guess what? Now you're broke!

9. The hot toys for kids nowadays are all fancy gadgets

Remember when all you wanted was a Cabbage Patch Doll? Or a Beanie Baby? Or a Skip-It? Those were the good ol' days. Kids today would never appreciate a Cabbage Patch Doll!

10. Snow is now a hellish nightmare (starring @melissaluciana)

Snow used to turn your Christmas vacation into a magical wonderland. You could go sledding and make snow angels! Now? Now you have to travel in this devil's dust, so you hate the snow with a fiery, burning passion.

11. You spend most of your Christmas traveling and splitting time between your family and your significant other's family (starring @scurry_tl and @jeanmarli)

There used to be a time where you would fly to one place and hunker down with your family for a week or two. When you're an adult in a relationship, you spend two days or so at home before flying for four hours and driving for half a day to see your husband's family. You're actually traveling more than you are visiting loved ones. But it's worth it to see everyone.

Despite all these Christmas changes, there is one thing that will never be different, no matter how old you get...

12. Ripping open presents is still one of the best feelings in the world (starring @maisweetie)
