Christmas—it's a time of year for giving and, obviously, receiving presents! For Conan's audience, however, it was a time to be reminded that Conan O'Brien doesn't typically give away free stuff around the holidays. Ellen DeGeneres, on the other hand, gives away presents to her audience for more than a week!
Unfortunately for Conan, one of Ellen's audience members stopped by to remind him of the perks of her "12 Days of Giveaways" special. She appeared in her seat next to an enormous cappuccino machine that the talk show host had given her and also showed off her other presents, which included a yet-to-be released iPhone 9 (already programmed with Ellen's home phone number), a pair of Jon Hamm's used basketball shorts and even an MRI machine!
But the jolly guest was distraught to hear that Conan Scrooge wouldn't be giving anything away to his viewers.
"I'm really sorry, ma'am. I don't give presents to the studio audience," he said.
"Well, then why are they here?" she responded.
The TBS talk show host explained to her that he prefers to give away the best gift, the gift of laughter, but she wasn't having it. Instead of letting it all go, the mystery woman appeared again the next night relentlessly seeking out presents from the redheaded host because she had gotten even more from Ellen.
"Those gifts are wonderful. Ellen's terrific. I just can't do that," he said. "It's a lot of work."
No matter how hard he tried, she still wouldn't accept it. So what was she to do? Call Ellen on her new iPhone 9, of course. Lucky for the audience, Ellen showed up!
"I agree the gift of laughter is the most important gift, but people like free stuff also," Ellen told Conan. "You never give them anything?"
Feeling the pressure, Conan offered up some gluten-free Fig Newtons, but honestly, who wants those? Ellen, being as awesome as she is, one-upped the late-night host and brought her own presents for his audience.
"It's a tie!" Conan declared.
