Talk about being a patron of the arts!

During the usual grilling about his personal life on The Howard Stern Show this morning, James Franco insisted that he and pal Lana Del Rey remain strictly platonic—despite the feelings he apparently has for her music.

Asked if he had ever dated the "Summertime Sadness" singer, Franco said, "No, she's a friend of mine...We're friends."

Perhaps they had at least hooked up then?

"No," Franco said. "On my life."

"I'll tell you why, maybe it's a boring answer," explained the star of The Interview, who appeared on the Sirius XM Radio show with his co-star and writer-director Seth Rogen. "There's a weird thing with creative types. Sometimes I love a person's work and, like, I'm just so enamored with that and their persona in their work. But outside of that, it's like, our dynamic is we're just kind of friends, we get along so well. But all this sexual attraction is for the person and the work."

Howard asked what sort of stuff they do do when they get together.

"We go to Coney Island and hang out," Franco shrugged. "I would have sex with her music."

Well that's...complimentary.

"I have, it's good," Rogen cracked. "I disappointed it, I think."

Besides, Franco added, talking about the time when rumors started swirling about him and Del Rey, "I think she had a boyfriend."

The actor himself may have thrown some grist into the rumor mill when he was first hanging out with the singer and Instagrammed a pic of the two of them with the caption, "Oh snap, we got married. JUST KIDDING!!!"

Don't worry, James, we didn't think that Del Rey had eloped with you and tied the knot in a plain white T, but...it did make some people wonder what, exactly, they were doing.

Going to Coney Island, apparently!
