Sebastian Kim/GQ Chris Hemsworth is a family man, but even Thor has his limits!
In a new interview with GQ's January issue, the married father of three, 31, admits he started to lose patience with brother Liam Hemsworth, 24, over some early-fame faux pas he himself committed years ago.
"I've watched Liam do things I did at his age, like being in relationships he shouldn't be in, or being reckless just to prove a point," says Chris (he didn't name any specific exes, but it's up to the reader whether to interpet that as a Miley Cyrus diss). "And I had no empathy. My mom had to remind me I was the same way."
Chris' big brother Luke Hemsworth, 34, once had to put him in his place, too. "Back when I was still on the soap [Australia's Home and Away] I became incredibly insecure and full of anxiety because I didn't know if I was any good," he recalls. "Yet I wanted it so bad. I spent years being angsty, constantly telling people I wasn't just part of a soap opera, that I was a real artist. And I remember Luke sort of snapping, telling me to shut up, that he was sick of hearing it."
That, he says, combined with a 2006 stint on the Aussie version of Dancing With the Stars, put him back in his place. "After that show, I could never pull the serious, self-important card again," he tells GQ.
Another reality check for Chris? His friendship with Matt Damon, who Chris describes as "just a normal guy who has the movie-star thing figured out."
All that said, Chris doesn't claim to have completely escaped the pitfalls of fame. "The fame, the parties, the women—I did that stuff back home, when I was on the show," he says, referring to his x stint on Home and Away. "I got away with a lot more over there...Then I came here"[in 2010 to film Ca$h] and sort of started over."
