Chris Rock has still got it!
Ahead of his new movie, Top Five, Rock appeared on The Late Show, and what started as a hilarious joke about Sting and his former band, turned into a conversation about riots and chokeholds.
Talking about the "crazy times" we're living in these days, Rock mentioned to the show's host, David Letterman, that he got a little nervous when he saw the "Desert Rose" crooner back stage.
"I saw Sting backstage, threw up my hands scared of The Police," he joked. Barely able to contain his laughter, Letterman asked him to repeat the joke.
"Oh no! It's The Police!" Rock said again.
But afterwards, Rock continued the racially charged conversation with the longtime host, asking him if he was aware that the WWE outlawed chokeholds, seemingly alluding to the Eric Garner decision. Of course, being the comedian that he is, the Down to Earth actor made light of the situation with a few jokes.
"So the WWE has better standards than the NYPD," Rock said. "You can't just choke The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin. You can't do that, Dave."
The standup comedian also talked rioting with Letterman, bringing up the protests that took place in Brooklyn while Kate Middleton and Prince William were in town for their big trip to America.
"No better way to calm down angry black people than British royalty," Rock joked.
Rock has discussed controversial topics in the past, as he once talked about gun control while appearing on Chelsea Lately.
"Hey, I have guns...I've got all kinds of guns, man. Fun guns. Love guns," Rock joked.
"I went to D.C. There was like, some rally about gun control," he said. "I'm not like a gun...like, 'Get rid of all the guns,' but I just don't think people should have machine guns in their house."
"So I went down there and I, you know, spoke a little bit about, a little bit on gun control. And then I got all these crazy emails and texts back from people cursing me out on my website, like, ‘I'll kill you! I'll kill you, you bastard, I'll shoot you in the head!' And I was like, ‘You know what? This ain't worth it,'" he said, adding, jokingly, "You need a machine gun to go against the gun people!"
In 2013, Rock joined Amanda Peet and Tony Bennett at a news conference in Washington, D.C. to lend support for President Barack Obama's gun control agenda, which called for a ban on semi-automatic weapons and other restrictions.
