Why Gracepoint, The Vampire Diaries and More Made Us Very Sad Tonight: Our Rants and Raves

Find out what we loved (and hated) about TV on Thursday, Dec. 11

Tonight, on TV, The Vampire Diaries made us sad. Gracepoint made us sad. Reign made us sad. And then there was Bones, whose 200th episode was like a beautiful breath of happy fresh air. All that and more in tonight's Rants and Raves.

RAVE: Gracepoint: Anna Gunn really has the worst luck with TV families. Ellie's husband Joe ended up going away for Danny's murder after it was revealed that the two had been spending a lot of time alone together. Joe had made advances and Danny had run off, only to then fall and hit his head – or so everyone now believes. The actual story gets even sadder for Ellie, because it was actually her son, Tom, who had accidentally delivered the fatal blow to Danny's head. Joe had covered it up, and now Ellie's covering it up, too. Obviously, the story of the death of a young boy was never going to end happily, but that doesn't mean we're not in shock.

RAVE: Bones: Hooray for something somewhat happy! That could not have been more fun, from the costumes to the sets to the ridiculous plot that found Booth, a jewel thief, suspected of murdering a wealthy woman for her jewelry. Even that pesky Pelant got in on the fun, showing up as a waiter. Milestone episodes are just the best.

RANT: Bones: We know, it was supposed to be an homage to old Hitchcock movies and a lot of old movies didn't have the best dialogue, but still. Some of that was hard to get through.

RAVE: Reign: It was somewhat gratifying to see the horrible men who raped Mary burned alive for what they did, but it was heartbreaking to hear Mary's decision to basically end her marriage. No, Mary and Francis aren't getting divorced, but Mary will be Francis' wife "in name only." It's a devastating move in devastating circumstances, but at this point it makes sense.

RAVE?: Reign: Henry and Catherine had some strangely hot ghost sex and yet again we wonder where the hell this show came from.

RANT: The Big Bang Theory: Amy deserves so much better than Sheldon. Sure, the guy can pick out a gift, but he was only picking out the gift to teach her a lesson about how much more right he is. Why is she with him again? Why is he supposed to be hilarious instead of just a sad jerk? Why have we had to ask this question so many times?

RAVE: The Big Bang Theory: Leonard, Howard, and Raj vs. the pigeon was vaguely reminiscent of Walter and Jesse vs. the fly, and grown men wrestling with pesky animals seems to always be a thing that will entertain us.

CW

RANT: The Vampire Diaries: Uh, no. Don't you dare kill Sheriff Forbes. She is the only parent left, and she is a freaking saint. Turn her into a vampire and save her life or we will be unleashing our rage upon you! Ditto if Enzo kills Matt.

However, any scene that has Stefan comforting Caroline like he did tonight is a scene worth rewinding in our books. Those two will be the death of us, we swear.

RAVE: The Vampire Diaries: We like Jo and Liv and whatever Liv's somewhat useless brother's name is, but Kai is a perfectly insane villain who is almost way too much fun to root against. Sure, he may have put a cloaking spell over he and Elena, preventing what probably would have been a sweet Delena reunion there at the end, but we can also thank him for finally sucking away the anti-magic spell around Mystic Falls. Who cares if he's now more powerful than ever? The Salvatore boys are back in their giant house and all is a little more right with the world.

RANT: The Vampire Diaries: Those scenes with Bonnie dragging and decorating that sad Christmas tree all by herself were just positively rude.
