It's no surprise that, come early February, all anyone can talk about (when they're not talking about the strike) is which movie is the worst of the year thus far. Here are my top two contenders:

Worst Movie of the Year Contender Number One:  Fool's Gold

Pros:  Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey probably won't reteam again. Australia is really pretty, and it's nice to watch the movie and pretend you're there.

Cons:  Since when does a light romp have to be almost two hours long? Gold is interminable—you walk out of it all pale on the outside and dead on the inside. McConaughey gets beat on the head over and over, which is stupid, because he never even bruises. These two don't have chemistry. They are nothing like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell in the infinitely superior aquatic love story Overboard.

Worst Movie of the Year Contender Number Two:  Over Her Dead Body

Pros:  It's not that long. So, if you take a couple of breaks to collect your sanity, Body actually goes by kind of fast. Leads Lake Bell and Paul Rudd know how to act, and they valiantly strive to make the best of a flat script and putrid story.

Cons:  You know a movie is bad when you go to the junket and two of the stars—Eva Longoria Parker and Jason Biggs—are way more animated about another movie they appear in, which in this case is Lower Learning. Also, Longoria's white outfits get really old. As do the jokes about how hot she is. And the whole premise of the movie—that she and Rudd's character were once betrothed and in love—is asinine. They have, like, half a scene together, and it doesn't involve the Righteous Brothers or a pottery wheel. Tragic.

Okay, it's time to put this serious debate to the public! Vote, and let me know what you think in Comments.
