You tell me: Does this just-announced, high-wattage romantic comedy The Ugly Truth sound, instead, like a rejected sitcom idea?
Here's the scene: A cute but chauvinistic on-air TV stud (Gerard Butler) enlists his perfect-but-somehow-still-single producer (Katherine Heigl) to jump through hoops in the real dating world, thus hopefully proving all his theories about love are right on. (P.S.: Do ya think they maybe, like, are meant for each other? I know. I'm crazy.)
The most baffling aspect of the Truth news, reported in today's Variety, is that it comes from the team that brought us Legally Blonde, an actual smart and fun comedy. It saddens me to think of the minds behind that brilliant movie coming together and emerging with a setup that involves a TV news segment.
Katherine and Gerard: You have appeared in true hit movies. People like to go to the movies and watch you wear bridesmaid dresses and scream in togas and stuff. You owe us more than The Ugly Truth.
