Look! It's Sideways! Thomas Haden Church is a reckless guy driving around with a buddy. (Okay, so this time the buddy is actually his brother, and it's Dennis Quaid not Paul Giamatti.)
And look! It's The Family Stone! Sarah Jessica Parker is a tense-ish career woman bearing foodstuffs at another family's dinner. (Okay, so this time it's a colorful cake, and she's a doctor.)
Say look, it's Juno! Ellen Page is a wry teenager who's so not some chick from The Hills. (Okay, so she's not pregnant, and she appears to have discovered a curling iron.)
Really though, I can't wait for Smart People. It makes me happy to watch a trailer and see such a familiar tone. It's a tone that works more often than not: downhearted quirky family comes together with the help of some oddball outsiders. The best thing about Juno's $100 million gross is that we might get movies of this ilk more than, say, once a year. So, bravo, Smart People. I can't wait to meet you.
