If you were watching a big entertainment moment on television this year, chances are you also had Twitter open on your desktop, laptop, iPad or phone and were tweeting along with the rest of the world. Because if you don't tweet your 140 characters or less opinion of Taylor Swift's Grammys performance, did it really happen?

Kim Kardashian may have come close to breaking the Internet and taking down Twitter with her shiny derrière, but according to the social media site's data, these were the events and moments that really dominated Twitter and hashtags in 2014:

1. First tweets

Robert Downey Jr., Garth Brooks, Maya Rudolph and more stars joined Twitter, and their fans rejoiced.

2. The Oscars

It was the selfie "heard" 'round the world.

3. The MTV VMAs

AKA when Beyoncé ran the show.

4. Kim and Kanye's wedding

Kanye West's tweet of their first kiss as husband and wife got over 100,000 retweets.

5. The Golden Globes

Tina and Amy for president!

6. The World Cup

USA goalie Tim Howard saved everything during the World Cup, especially our hearts.

7. The Super Bowl

Or as we will call it when we tell our kids about Denver vs. Seattle: The First Official Weed Bowl.
