Color us intrigued!

The Leftovers is currently plotting out its second season, and you can expect some significant changes. Most importantly: The location. Which also means: A different setup for the cast.

Season one took place in Mapelton, New York, and that location definitely will be changing, according to sources who work on the show. (HBO has not yet commented.)

As a result, some of season one's 14 regular cast members (a very large cast)  will no longer be considered series regulars. However, many of the characters from season one will appear in some fashion. Our sources want you to be suprised when it comes to the specifics, but I'm told that the reason for the change in their status is mostly due to the change in location.

Lost boss Damon Lindelof opens up about show's legacy, and spills never-known secrets

Don't worry: Justin Theroux (and his mysteriously-thin sweatpants) will still be there. Amy Brenneman,  Margaret QualleChris ZylkaCarrie Coon and Christopher Eccleston are also expected to return as series regulars. Liv Tyler, who is expecting her second child, is also expected to return, however she  might not be a regular.

The fates of everybody else remain up in the air, including Max Carver, Charlie Carver, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, Michael Gaston and Annie Q.

Creatively, the show also has been freed up for season two in that it won't rely on the novel by Tom Perrotta. Lost's Damon Lindelof, who oversees the series, is now able to create storylines from scratch, so what goes down in season two is very much a mystery. The series follows the aftermath of a Rapture-like event that saw 2 percent of the world's population suddenly vanish. Theroux plays the chief of police, his estranged wife Laurie (Brenneman), goes to live with the Guilty Remnant, a cult that developed in the aftermath of the Sudden Departure where she meets Meg (Tyler) and Patti (Dowd).

"We are thrilled to bring back The Leftovers for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta," HBO's Michael Lombardo said when the renewal was announced.. "It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain."

Deadline first reported the news of a shakeup.

No premiere date for season two has been set.
