ABCNooooo?
We're genuinely not sure how we feel about the events of tonight's Revenge, in which Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman) took his last breath. We spent so much of the episode trying to guess who the dearly departed would be that we barely even noticed all of the clear soap opera signs that he was about to kick the bucket: the baby on the way, the fatherly flashbacks, the heartfelt convos with both Margaux and Victoria.
What we didn't expect was that he would die nobly, by jumping in front of bullets meant for Emily in an epic fight with that two-timing Kate Taylor, who also – surprise surprise! – happens to be Malcolm Black's daughter.
It almost seemed like Daniel was planning to take his own life as he sat remembering what a horrible person his father had encouraged him to become and faced the prospect of becoming a father himself. Then, he heard the commotion inside Emily's house and saw her bleeding and crawling on the floor. Even though Emily told Daniel to move when Kate had her gun trained in their direction, Daniel stayed put, and took the bullets. Jack then jumped in to take Kate down.
While he's been a minor jerkface for the past couple of seasons, it wasn't like he had no excuse, so as Emily held him and lied to him that he would be all right, we couldn't help but shed a tear.
Sad, but not entirely unexpected.
