Martin Freeman isn't sad for his time as Bilbo Baggins to come to an end.

As the star of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies told E! News in London Tuesday, "We're all meant to die. The Beatles are meant to split up, and there's meant to be three Hobbit films."

"You know, things are meant to stop," he went on. "I think the more you hold on to them and think, 'No, let's keep making these films,' or, 'no, let's keep making these records,' it's unnatural."

That's not to say, of course, he's not proud of his work bringing J.R.R. Tolkien's world to life on the big screen. "I'm very excited for people to see it and have the end to their story that they've hopefully been enjoying," he said.

The 43-year-old actor, who first played Bilbo in 2012's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, didn't exactly take a typical fanboy approach towards the iconic role. So what was it about Freeman's history that allowed him, as he described it, to "not be fanatical" about Bilbo while still being "very respectful" of the character and the story? Watch the clip above the find out!

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters in 3-D and IMAX on Dec. 17.
