Why did Tom Cruise cross the road? To get to the other side, of course, but he was nearly flattened in the process!

The 52-year-old was filming for Mission: Impossible 5 in London when he absentmindedly stepped into the right in front of an oncoming double decker bus! Fortunately, the bus driver honked loudly and Cruise heeded the warning, stepping out of its path just in the nick of time. (Video of the near-incident shows obtained by Today just how quick the action star was on his feet!)

Let this be a reminder to look both ways when you cross the street—especially in the U.K. where cars drive on the opposite side of the road than they do here in the States! Had Cruise not been alert, this could've been his end of the road.

The veteran actor probably wasn't too rattled by this close call. He performs his own stunts on the reg—including, most recently, suspending himself from a military plane 5,000 feet in the air!

It was just last month the father of three successfully pulled off this seemingly impossible feat, suspended from the tail of an Airbus A400 M aircraft with only two safety harnesses as he filmed another scene for Mission: Impossible 5. He completed the stunt with minimal assistance, and at one point was seen hanging from the plane in a horizontal position.

He's (clearly) not afraid of death-defying stunts. But will there ever come a day when Cruise lets a stunt double handle this kind of risky business?  "Not yet, not yet," the actor told E! News back in 2011 at the premiere of Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol. "I'm sure there will be, but not yet."
