Anderson Cooper had a surprising health scare this week.

After missing the Monday episode of his CNN show AC360 yesterday, the 47-year-old host took to Twitter to explain why he wasn't on air. Turns out, Cooper was rushed to the hospital to undergo emergency surgery.

"I'll be back on air tomorrow," Cooper wrote Monday. "Had an appendicitis and had to have sudden surgery last night."

Despite the scary surgery, Cooper promised to be back at work after missing only one show. Talk about a pro!

During Monday's episode, John Berman replaced Cooper to report the news while the journalist recovered.

Meanwhile, in less-serious AC360 news, Cooper was recently pranked by his staff and coworkers during his Ridiculist segment. The hilarious joke happened unbeknownst to Cooper during a live, on-air broadcast.

Perhaps Cooper's coworkers have come up with another funny way to brighten his spirits on air following his recent surgery.
