Beat Ben @ the Box Office: B.C. Gets Seen!

Monday Update:  You guys were right. Most readers voting in the poll (see below) said 10,000 B.C. would take a stone hammer to the box office, and it did, with a $35.7 million take. Will the caveman flick continue this year's trend of starting fast and sinking, or does it have legs? Lemme know what you think in Comments.

Things can't get much worse than last week. Semi-Pro "tracked" (a fancy Hollywood word for gauging the public's interest) through the roof but was an air ball with audiences. This week, 10,000 B.C. hits theaters during the same weekend 300 opened last year, hoping to find a trend in March-release adventure epics with numbers in the titles. If it does half the business that 300 did, it'll be a smashing success.

My Call:  10,000 B.C. will take in $18 million this weekend at the box office. Not too much, with College Road Trip eating into much of the audience (Raven-Symoné's been huge way longer than Miley Cyrus, don't forget).

Here's Why:  Unfortunately 300 had something this latest Roland Emmerich-directed caveman movie lacks: 300 was good. This is average at best. The word of mouth on 300 was strong, including with the entirely unexpected female audience, but nobody in the business is talking about 10,000 B.C.

Your Turn:  Do you think woolly mammoths can draw more than Will Ferrell and Martin Lawrence these days? Or am I nuts? Vote and sound off in the Comments.
