Creed's Scott Stapp Says He's Broke and Living in a Holiday Inn, Alleges "a Lot of Money Was Stolen From Me"

Singer tells his story in a lengthy video statement on Facebook, insists he's "sober as can be"

Scott Stapp acknowledges that he's battled demons in the past—but his current precarious situation, he says, is not of his own design.

The Creed frontman, insisting on camera that he is clean and "sober as can be," posted a nearly 16-minute video statement on Facebook early this morning in which he says that he is under a "pretty vicious attack" from someone who wants to discredit him, and that a recent audit of his record company and personal finances revealed that "a lot of money was stolen from me."

Stapp said that he has spent the last few years "re-dedicating my life to Christ, I love God with all my heart" and he's "very excited about the future in terms of finally being able to fully dedicate my music and my life's testimony and my message to share what God's done in my life."

He says that he's praying for those who are "spreading lies" about him and has "nothing but forgiveness for them as well."

So it's a little eerie that he apparently has been dealt a Job-like challenge.

Also in the past four or five weeks, Stapp continues, "all of a sudden the IRS has frozen my bank accounts two or three times to leave me completely penniless. I don't even understand that, why all of this is happening at the same time. When I called to find out why, they said, ‘Oh, we had an address mix-up, it was a clerical error, so we'll return your funds in nine to 10 months.' I don't understand how that's fair in America and in the country that we live in."

"Right now I'm living in a Holiday Inn, by the grace of God, because there's been a couple of weeks I had to live in my truck," he also says. "I had no money, not even for gas or food. I went two days without eating because I had no money and ended up in an emergency room."

The 41-year-old singer, who had some run-ins with the law before cleaning up his act, said that his first concerns right now are his three kids—sons Jagger and Daniel and daughter Milán

"I don't know if I'm doing the right thing by making a video and putting it on the Internet," he said. "It's totally against my personality, but again, I can't sit back anymore and lalow thist o continue and allow my children to be embarrassed and humiliated by the actions of others, not their father.

"No matter what is done to me, I want those out there that are persecuting me right now to know that I'm not going to stop sharing what Christ has done in my life."

Stapp also says that his civil rights have been violated.

"This all will be public, I'm going to take it public and I'm going to expose, and I'm going to fight, every single indiviual that is responsible for this. Right now I'm looking for an honest, good attorney that's ready to fight and take it all the way to the top."

A spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office told TMZ that a welfare check was made at Stapp's home last week and all seemed to be fine. They had no further information to share when contacted by E! News Wednesday.

A rep for Stapp's record label has not yet responded to a request for comment.

At no time in the video did Stapp mention wife Jaclyn Nesheiwat, whom he married in 2006. The Miss New York USA 2004 winner is the mother of Milán and Daniel, while Jagger is Stapp's son with ex Hillaree Burns.

Creed last performed together in 2012.
