Mariah Carey is everywhere these days.

Her new album, E=MC2, drops April 14, so she’s been on Oprah, performed on Saturday Night Live and at The Hills premiere party and is set to appear on American Idol. Oh, she’s also in a new Macy’s commercial.

While she probably would be working hard anyway, I’m told there might be some extra incentive: Making the album may have gotten a little pricey. A source tells me Carey had not one but two photo shoots to take care of publicity, marketing and album art.

The shoots, according to my source, may have cost up to $500,000. Each.

A rep for the label says two shoots for someone like Carey isn’t unusual, and while she said she didn’t know figures, the rep added, “I don’t think it was that much.”

Meanwhile, Carey is on the cover of Monday’s issue of music trade magazine Billboard. She says she’s not the diva people think she is. But she realizes she’s partly to blame for the bad rap, especially after trying to show her funnier side on MTV Cribs.

“I’ll do stuff...and they’re like, ‘Why is she doing the treadmill with her high heels on?' ” Carey says in the mag. “It’s a freakin’ joke! It’s Cribs! Hello!”
