TV LandTV will have fewer laughs next spring. Hot in Cleveland, TV Land's first original scripted sitcom will end in 2015 after six seasons and more than 100 episodes. Hot in Cleveland just kicked off its sixth season with stars Wendie Malick, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Betty White and less than a million viewers.
The stars took to social media after news came down. Bertinelli shared several quotes about endings, including this one by Shel Silverstein: "There are no happy endings. Endings are the saddest part. So just give me a happy middle and a very happy start."
Leeves took to Twitter and said, "I'm so glad we had this time together." And "BIG thank you to our amazing fans! I hope you love the final season as much as we've loved making it. It's been such a gift."
"OK, first of all, you #HotinCleveland fans are totally awesome…secondly, next April, we're going out in a blaze of glory!" Malick said.
Hot in Cleveland assembled the ladies—all with various sitcom experiences—and teamed them with the queen of TV, Betty White. White was originally supposed to just have a one-off appearance in the pilot. Fast-forward more than 100 episodes later and the 92-year-old Golden Girls and Mary Tyler Moore Show veteran is still kicking it in Cleveland.
"After five incredible seasons of Hot in Cleveland, the sixth season, currently in production, will be its last. It's been an honor to work with Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the incomparable Betty White as well as our executive producers Suzanne Martin, Todd Milliner, Sean Hayes and the rest of our exceptional writers, production team and crew. The passion and talent they brought to the set each and every week over the past 5 years has put TV Land on the map as a network dedicated to quality original programming. We will continue to celebrate the show and are looking forward to a fantastic series finale," TV Land President Larry W. Jones said in a statement to E! News.
Hot in Cleveland kicked off its lengthy run to big numbers—4.8 million viewers—but has eroded viewers through the years. The Exes and The Soul Man are still on the air at TV Land.
