Britney Spears may have more than a music video in mind as she hits the dance studio.

She could be getting ready to start performing live. I hear that producers of Cyndi Lauper’s second annual True Colors tour for gay rights may try to snag the pop princess for a performance or two.

This wouldn’t be their first attempt. They reportedly asked Spears last year to join Lauper, Rosie O’Donnell, Erasure, Debbie Harry and the MisShapes onstage at L.A.’s Greek Theater in June, but it never happened. A tour rep insisted at the time that Spears was invited for one of the Las Vegas dates, but she never got back to them.

Other reports claimed Lauper & Co. nixed Spears when she reportedly said she would only dance or lip-synch her performance.

The new 24-city North American tour, presented by gay cable network Logo, kicks off May 31 at Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion. Performers include O’Donnell, the B-52s, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Deborah Cox, Indigo Girls and comedian Wanda Sykes.
